The Blue Pool / Bláhver - Hveravellir, Central Highlands Iceland (by skarpi)

Blue Pool in the geothermal field of Hveravellir, highlands of Iceland. Taken just before sunset on a calm winterday. I punched the blue color a bit, the sensor did not manage to sense all that blue as the eye does. Looking down to the pool, it seems to have an endless blue depth. The colored liquid is rich with silica minerals among other geothermal materials.

The Icelands most famous outlaw Eyvindur was maybe the first to discover Hveravellir, when hiding in the highlands of Iceland, after steeling some sheep from farmers. He was clever to make use of the geothermal area to survive the cold winter in Iceland.
